Nore Stave Church lies in Nore and Uvdal Municipality in Buskerud County. You will find a map showing its location here. Click on the small hand icon in the upper left corner of the map to show all of Fortidsminneforeningen's properties in the region.
Nore Stave Church is of the Numedal type, was built in the 1180s and has a rectangular nave with central mast and a narrower chancel.
An unusual feature of the church is that transepts were added to the nave as early as the Middle Ages.
The church was partially rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries. Nave and chancel show the remains of beautiful painting from 1655 and 1683. Its west door has richly carved decorations with foliage scrolls and animal ornamentation.
Open 13 June to 18 August, 10-18. Tickets NOK 40/35, accompanied children free. For more information, call + 47 32 89 14 16 or send an e-mail to jorwiik@online.no.
